I Have a Really Good Excuse, Though

This summer has been pretty insane overall, so to ratchet things up to mental-breakdown levels at the end, we really outdid ourselves.

Our oldest daughter is going to college in Utah this semester. Many of you might know that New England is not close to Utah, so we had no choice but to fly there. (Yes, I know driving that far is technically possible, but so are lots of other things I refuse to ever do.)

It made sense for all of us to just go, since we also have family in the area that we're overdue to visit. But tickets that got all 8 of us us directly from here to there were really, really expensive so we had to get creative.

I think we got a little too creative. It turned out okay in the end, but in the space of 12 days, we:
  • packed up for a family of 8, including all of our oldest daughter's earthly belongings for college
  • drove to New York City and parked at the airport
  • went sightseeing around NY for a day
  • flew to Las Vegas
  • visited friends and the Las Vegas strip for a day
  • rented a car and drove to Salt Lake City, UT
  • stayed with our family
  • dropped off our daughter at college
  • drove back to Vegas and stayed the night at a posh resort Phillip scored an amazing deal for
  • flew back to NYC
  • drove home, arriving at 3:30 AM yesterday
This is all a long-winded way of saying that I don't have 7 Quick Takes for you today. But I think you'll agree I have a pretty good excuse.

I'll attempt to detail the trip in a post next week, because even though I have a permanent eye twitch now, it was still a lot of fun.

One child not pictured. We didn't lose him, I swear.

Yup, insane. But we were so happy you did it! Great memories were made for Dad and I.

You certainly made an adventure out of it - so fun! We also live in MA and our son goes to college in OH which is a driveable but long distance. He flies back and forth on his own now, but that freshman dropoff is a must. You must miss her already :)

Wow, that sounds like such a fun (but exhausting) adventure! I'm glad you guys made it back safely!

Sounds like a whirlwind! We are in Provo if your daughter ever needs anything.
